It is good to know how to stop hair fall, but it is equally important to understand
the causes of hair damages. The hair is considered to be an essential part of
your look but damaged hairs can jeopardize the effect. Unknowingly we resort to
things which cause hair damages and by simply avoiding these it is possible to
maintain the shine and luster of our hairs.
The
structure of hair
There are three layers in hair called
medulla, cortex and cuticle. Medulla is the innermost fiber. Cortex surrounds
medulla. The outer layer of the hair which is responsible for the protection of
the hair from outer abuses and the sensitive inner layers is called cuticle.
The hair is made up of proteins, held together by bonds. The follicles are
responsible for the growth of hair. The follicles lie beneath the scalp skin
and collect nutrients and proteins from the blood.
How
the hair is damaged
Once the cuticle is damaged, the
sensitive inner layers are exposed. This causes hair to become dry and the hair
is broken easily.
The
wrong things we do
·
Over-shampooing
and use of chemical shampoo dry up the natural moisture of hair. The hair loses
its capacity to protect itself.
·
Blow
drying, curling and straightening without proper protection.
·
Use
of chemical products causes break down of the bonds which hold the protein
together. This makes the hair brittle.
·
Hair
bleaching does lots of harm to the hair. The bleach penetrates the cuticle
layer and washes away the natural pigments of hair. This change in structure
makes the hair susceptible to damage.
·
The
other bad things we do are over-brushing, tight hair make-up such as pony tail
and braid and pulling of hair.
