HAIRS ON YOUR SCALP ARE DEAD

Do you know that the hairs on your scalp are all dead cells?  The hairs are there all over the body except the feet, palms, eye lids and lips. The mechanism of the growth and the maintenance of the hairs are controlled by the follicles which remain beneath the skin. Very close to the hair follicles there lie tiny glands which produce oil for the lubrication of the hairs. This is the only part of the hair which is alive. As the hair pops out of the follicles it is dead and can only be pushed out for its growth. This is achieved due to a process of cell division which occurs beneath the skin. For greyhair treatment you need to treat the scalp rather than the hairs.

The hairs that we see on the scalp are basically called the cuticle or the upper layer of the hair shaft. This hair cuticle is covered with thin layer of oil which is produced by the oil producing gland of the follicles. This layer of oil is very important for the good health of the hair as it protects the hair from external element and gives the hairs its shining. Fat in your diet is important for the production of the oil. Lack of fat in your diet will make the hairs dry, brittle, fizzy and damaged in the long run. You will have to use conditioners and shampoos for removing the dryness of the scalp and the hairs. This in turn would damage your hairs as the shampoos contain chemicals which are detrimental for the scalp and the hairs. Consuming right kind of fat is therefore very essential for the health of the hairs.

The hair is composed of a particular type of protein which is called keratin. This protein provides the right strength to the hairs.

THE HAIR THAT MEETS THE EYE

You must not be misled by the apparently plain and ordinary look of the hairs. Behind the hair that meets our eyes there are big stories to tell and the story is quite interesting too. Our body has 5 million hairs and bulk of this is concentrated on our head and the scalp. The hairs belong to that rare few things of our body which are capable of self generate itself. You often run behind finding how to stop hair fall and other issues but do you know that no hair that meets our eyes is permanent. In the long tenure of your life on the earth the life of your hair is hardly two to six years. Did you know that the hair follicles which lie at the root of all hairs appear within 22 weeks of your birth? The follicles are never again created. When we grow the density of the follicles beneath the skin reduces.

Within our own life cycle each and every hair has its own distinct life cycles. The hair grows at the hair bulb which remains at the lower part of the follicles. After its coming into being, the hair grows rapidly for two to six years after which the growth of the hair stops. This growth phase of the hair is called anogen phase. As if after growing fast the hair becomes tired and it goes to rest for two to four months in the resting phase. The scalp has no use for the ones which stops growing and hence such lazy and spent horses are got to be got rid of. The hairs are then shed to give place for the newer ones to appear in its place.

As your body needs balanced diet and exercise for its well being, so is the case with your hairs too. So take care.

INVESTIGATING THE CAUSES OF DANDRUFF

Dandruff is a common hair issue affecting most people. Many consider this condition as a result of lack of cleanliness and personal hygiene. Many people do believe this myth and immediately diagnose as lack of personal hygiene on the part of the affected person. But the scientific fact is on the other side. Instead of just believing in myth one should try to explore the causative factors of dandruff and how to control dandruff.

We must understand that dandruff is a serious physiological condition which may even affect social behavior and psychological get up of the affected person. The medical science has found many reasons for developing dandruff. Some of them are inflammation of scalp skin, fungal infection, use of chemical hair products, stressful condition of life and environmental abuses.

Symptoms of dandruff condition

·         Itching on the scalp
·         White or silvery flakes on the scalp
·         Red lesion on the scalp
·         Irritating soreness

Fungus and various other organisms

Malassezia is one fungus which is normally found in our body. It may cause infection once it finds some penetrating crack on the scalp skin. Two species of Malassezia secrete lipid wastes. They are called M. Globasa and M. restricta. These lipid wastes cause itching and irritation on the scalp skin.

Pityrosporum fungus also settles on human scalp. They also cause itching and irritation on the scalp.

Inflammation and infection of the scalp skin is referred to as Eczema. This is also associated with fungus.

Seborrheic Dermatitis is another skin infection caused by fungus. It causes white flakes, itching and red lesions on the scalp skin.

Contact dermatitis is caused due to use of strong chemical which are found in hair shampoos and other hair care products.

Environmental abuses such as toxic substances and fine particles can cause conditions similar to dandruff.

PREMATURE GREYING OF HAIR IS A CONCERN

The present generation youth is very much fond of look. They spend much of their time for enhancing their look and beauty. It is due to this reason the fashion industry is fairing extraordinarily in spite of uncertain economic conditions all over the world. The hair is important part of the look. The younger generation cannot tolerate any compromise with the condition of their hair. Compared to past the number of hair issues have also increased due to the effect of modern modes of living. While many other issues can be treated significantly by home remedies and medications, grey hair treatment is lagging behind in its efficacy. Attempts are being made to find the various causes of this aging process. The people, in general, are in agreement with the normal graying of hair with the age. Sometimes such grey hairs become a status symbol for the aged man. This phenomenon has been symbolized by our Big B who has become an icon for the young beautiful ladies. But when the matter affects the youth, they demand grey hair treatment.

There are many home remedies for this but many of them are not reliable. Reversing the natural process of aging is quite difficult task. It needs deep scientific understanding of grey hair formation. One thing was known to the science since long that melanin pigment is responsible for the color of the hair. Research is going on for finding the exact cause of the process. Some say that melanin pigment production is stopped due to imbalance between free radicals and the antioxidants. While some say that hydrogen peroxide formed due to depletion of catalase enzyme bleaches the melanin pigment and it no longer blacken the hairs.

For effective grey hair treatment these scientific groups are developing various ways of tackling the issue based on their respective findings.
